Storm causes transport chaos
Storm front Andrea, which hit Switzerland on Thursday, has caused havoc with train, road and plane travel.
Railway lines in some mountain areas were blocked and flights in and out of the main airport in Zurich were disrupted.
The Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn (MGB) reported on Friday morning that certain railway lines, including the stretch between Göschenen and Andermatt, were still blocked.
Several sections of the Jungfrau railway were also closed.
Swiss Federal Railways said there were no remaining problems on Friday morning, except in lower Valais near St Maurice.
Dozens of flights in and out of Zurich Kloten airport – mainly to and from northern Europe – were cancelled on Thursday.
Andrea brought winds of up to 270km/h to mountains, accompanied by heavy rain and snow. Heavy snowfalls continued into Friday, and there was a high avalanche risk in some areas.
In lower-lying areas, central Switzerland and the Zurich winegrowing area were worst affected with winds of up to 120km/h, MeteoMedia said.
