Coachless Schnyder crashes out in Paris

Schnyder lost to Sidot despite a good start Keystone

Patty Schnyder has been knocked out in the first round of the Paris Open tennis tournament, nine days after sacking her coach.

Schnyder, who fired Vito Gugolz after a string of bad results, failed to halt the slide in the French capital, where she lost in three sets to France’s Anne-Gaelle Sidot.

The Swiss women’s number two made a solid enough start, winning the first set 7-5, before taking a 2-0 lead in the second. But Sidot rallied to take the match 5-7, 7-5, 6-2 and edge 3-2 ahead of Schnyder in their head to head encounters.

Schnyder has already named her former coach Eric von Harpen as replacement for Gugolz but the Dutch trainer is not due to start working with the Swiss player until after next week’s WTA tournament in Nice.
