Curlers into semi-finals

The Swiss men's team will now face Norway in the last four Keystone

The Swiss men's curling team have succeeded in following the women's team into the semi-finals of the European Championships in Finland.

A 7-2 defeat at the hands of the host nation had put Switzerland’s place in the final four in doubt on Wednesday. But Andreas Schwaller’s men bounced back on Thursday, making sure of a semi-final spot with a 9-2 thrashing of the Czech Republic.

The Swiss women, made up of curlers from the Bern AAM club, grabbed their semi-final place on Wednesday after celebrating their third win in a row with a 7-4 win over Scotland.

Both teams have already realised their primary ambitions of guaranteeing themselves places at February’s Winter Olympics.

In Friday’s semi-final action, the Swiss men are set to take on Pal Trulsen’s Norway side. In their previous group stage meeting, Switzerland enjoyed a 9-3 victory over the Norwegians.

Luzia Ebnöther’s women’s team also face Scandinavian opposition in the form of Sweden. Their previous encounter ended in a narrow 5-4 win for the Swedes.
