Good news for dance fans: the Neuchâtel government has eased the canton’s ban on grabbing your partner by the hand on religious holidays.

In future people will have to hang up their dance shoes only on Good Friday and Christmas.
The cantonal parliament said on Thursday it considered visiting dance halls on religious holidays nowadays nothing more than “lacking respect” and as a result it made no sense to keep the ban for every Christian holiday.
Until now dancing had been banned on seven days throughout the year, including Whitsun and Ascension.
According to the 2000 census of the canton’s 168,000 inhabitants, 64,000 said they were Protestant and 51,000 Roman Catholics.

The music for the production was composed by London-based Gabriel Prokofiev, the grandson of the great Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev.
