Denmark releases climate protestors

Four Greenpeace activists, including one Swiss, have been released from detention in Copenhagen, according to the environmental organisation.

The three men and one woman were arrested on December 17 during a protest at an official dinner for heads of state at the United Nations climate change conference.

They succeeded in gatecrashing the dinner party given by the Queen of Denmark and held up banners demanding action to stop global warming.

Greenpeace said it had assured the Danish authorities that the activists would appear in a Copenhagen court to face charges, if they are requested to do so.

On December 30, Swiss Foreign Minister Micheline Calmy-Rey intervened on behalf of the Swiss man, to ensure he received post and visits from his family.
