Roger Federer and Martina Hingis will not play together in next summer’s Olympics in London, Federer’s trainer Severin Luthi has told the Swiss media.

He said the two had spoken together and decided against the idea.
Speculation had been rife since the summer that the two Swiss tennis champions might team up for the Olympic mixed doubles, despite the fact that Hingis retired in 2007 after a positive drugs test.
Federer mentioned the idea to journalists in August, before even discussing the possibility with Hingis in person. He described the former women’s number one as having been “a wonderful player”.
Lüthi said Federer has great ambitions for the Olympics. He is hoping that he and Stanislas Wawrinka will repeat their doubles victory of 2008, and he also wants to win the gold in the singles for the first time.
London will see the return of the mixed doubles in the Olympics. It last featured in 1924.
