Federer battles through at French Open

Federer on his way to a hard-fought win Keystone

Switzerland's Roger Federer came back from the dead at the French Open to pull off a memorable second round victory over Armenia's Sargis Sargsian that pulsated over five sets.

Trailing two sets to love and seemingly heading for an early exit at Roland Garros, Federer needed to dig deep into his reserves of mental and physical strength to square the match at two sets all.

The Swiss star eventually went on to win the match 4-6, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4, 9-7 after a titanic struggle in the fifth set.

Federer will face Spain’s David Sanchez in the next round.
