Roger Federer defeated American Andy Roddick in the semifinals of the Swiss Indoors tennis tournament on Saturday.

The Swiss star – currently world number two – will play Serb Novak Djokovic (number three) in Sunday’s final.

Federer beat Roddick (number nine) in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. The Swiss played nearly flawless tennis in the first set. He broke Roddick in the final game with a scorching cross-court winner as the American charged the net.

The second set began differently with Roddick breaking Federer in the first game. But the Swiss broke back in the sixth to even the score, eventually breaking the American again in the final game to secure his place in the final against Djokovic.

The Swiss Indoors is celebrating its 40-year jubilee this year. Federer won it for three years in a row before he was beaten by the Serb in last year’s final.

It was reported on Friday that world number one Rafael Nadal of Spain had withdrawn from the forthcoming Paris Masters for medical reasons. With Nadal’s withdrawal, Federer has been given the number one seed.
