Federer slides in ATP rankings

Roger Federer has dropped to third position in the ATP rankings following his semi-final defeat on Saturday to Serbia’s Novak Djokovic at Indian Wells.

Djokovic, who went on to beat world number one Rafael Nadal to win the title, is now ranked second in the world. Nadal continues to hold the number one ranking by a lead of nearly 4,000 points.

It is the third time since July last year that Djokovic has relieved Federer of the number two ranking.

Federer’s fellow Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka improved his ranking by one place to 13.

Other movers included France’s Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Richard Gasquet who climbed one and three places to rank 16 and 18 respectively. Another Serb, Viktor Troicki, climbed one place to rank 17.
