Tuesday's Swiss ice hockey league action brought relief for supporters of Langnau and Ambri after both sides managed to guarantee themselves places in next season's top division.

Langnau pulled off a comfortable 5-1 defeat over relegation playout rivals La Chaux-de-Fonds to complete a 4-1 overall victory in the best-of-seven series.

Ambri, who were unexpectedly dragged into this season’s relegation battle having been tipped as pre-season contenders for the league title, managed to finally put their recent woes behind them with a 3-1 win over Chur.

Tuesday’s triumph ensured that the Ticinese team also won their series 4-1.

La Chaux-de-Fonds and Chur, who finised the regular season last and second last respectively, must now do battle with each other. The loser will then face the final relegation fight against the winners of the second division’s promotion play-offs.
