Ambri crush La Chaux-de-Fonds
Ambri Piotta have cruised to victory over lowly La Chaux-de-Fonds in first division ice hockey action. Playing away from home on Tuesday evening, the Ticino team thrashed their opponents 4-0.
Kristen Cantoni scored the first goal against the canton Neuchâtel team, just nine minutes into the first period. The second point came eight minutes later, courtesy of Paolo Imperatori.
The second period saw Manuele Celio shooting the puck home before the 2,300-strong crowd at Les Mélézes. The crowning goal for Ambri came in the final period with another successful shot by Imperatori.
Ambri now have six points – one less than league leaders Zug. Their opponents are in the relegation zone and are one spot from the bottom with three points.
Trailing two points below La Chaux-de-Fonds is Chur, who in Tuesday evening’s other match put on a less than dramatic performance.
The team from canton Graubünden played Zürich Lions in a match which ended with no points scored.
Playing in the Hallenstadion, in front of more than 6,300 spectators, neither side was able to manage a goal despite the match going to overtime.
Zürich Lions are in ninth position, and have four points.
