Ammann flies to fifth in Harrachov
The Swiss ski jumper and double Olympic gold medallist, Simon Ammann, has finished fifth at the ski flying world championships in Harrachov.
Ammann, who was taking part in his first ever ski flying event, finished more than 30 points behind the winner of the competition, Germany’s Sven Hannawald. However, Ammann made the third best Swiss jump ever on Saturday, with 195.5 metres.
Hannawald was declared the winner of the Czech event on the basis of Saturday’s first two legs. He finished in first position, in front of his compatriot Martin Schmitt and Finland’s Matti Hautmäki.
Sunday’s competition was cancelled because of strong winds.
