Borghi fourth in Sweden
Swiss skier Catherine Borghi has narrowly missed out on what would have been her first ever World Cup podium place after finishing fourth during a sprint downhill in Are.
Crossing the finish line just six hundredths of a second behind third-placed Italian Isolde Kostner, Borghi managed to equal her previous best performance on the World Cup tour, having also finished fourth during November’s downhill race in Lake Louise.
Just as in St Moritz, it was the Austrian team who had most to smile about in Sweden with Renate Götschl winning Saturday’s two-legged race ahead of second-placed compatriot Selina Heregger.
Switzerland’s Corinne Rey-Bellet was forced to withdraw from the downhill race on Friday after complaining of a back injury. It is not clear if Rey-Bellet will be fit in time for the start of the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City next week.
