Croat crumbles in face of Hingis
Switzerland's Martina Hingis is through to the fourth round of the Wimbledon tennis championships, after crushing the Croat, Silvija Talaja, 6-2 6-2.
Hingis needed all her concentration to defeat the Croatian, who is ranked 22nd in the world and could have been a threat. The Swiss number one came to the net more frequently than in previous tournaments and managed to break her opponent’s rhythm.
After the match she admitted she had failed to use that particular tactic at the French Open. “Perhaps I began my training for Paris a bit too late. But all the same, I worked very hard and now I feel confident and good about myself.”
With this latest victory, Hingis has secured her place in the second and final week of the tournament, one of the prestigious Grand Slams of the international tennis circuit.
