Federer defeats Murray in London

Roger Federer: strong performance against Andy Murray Reuters

Swiss tennis star Roger Federer has extended his winning streak in London with a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Britain’s Andy Murray.

The Tuesday afternoon match was Federer’s second in the 2010 ATP World Tour Finals, the tournament for the world’s top eight players.

Having lost to Murray in their last two duels in Toronto and Shanghai, Federer beat him quite easily in London.

“I don’t think he played his best match,” said Federer. “He came out and made some mistakes. Maybe it was due to my good play. From my side, I was obviously very happy. It was a good match. I played tough and solid from start to finish.”

Federer received a standing ovation for his performance at the packed 02 Arena.

A 16-time grand slam champion, Federer has won the ATP World Tour Finals four times.

The second-ranked Federer will face off against Sweden’s Robin Söderling on Thursday.

“I’m excited to play Söderling. I have a great record against him. I hope I can play the same level like I did the last two,” Federer said after Tuesday’s match.
