Swiss tennis player, Emmanuelle Gagliardi, has lost the first round of the WTA tournament in Acapulco, Mexico.
The Genevan player lost in straight sets to Slovakia’s Katarina Srebotnik 2-6, 4-6.
The Slovakian, who at 69 is ranked 10 places higher than Gagliardi, made light work of her Swiss challenger in the first set and cruised to a quick win.
Gagliardi fought back in the next set but got off to a bad start when Srebotnik broke her serve in the second game. The Swiss player did however claw her way back to 4-4.
But Gagliardi efforts were in vain as Srebotnik soon regained strength and clinched her 6-4 victory.
Tuesday’s defeat further compounds Gagliardi’s disappointing performance this season following first round defeats in both Doha and Paris.
