Switzerland's world number one, Martina Hingis, has won the Den Bosch trophy at the grass tournament in Rosmalen in the Netherlands.

Her victory over Romania’s Ruxandra Dragomir was her fourth tournament victory this year and the 30th of her career.

However, the tournament in the Dutch town hardly served as the warm-up for Wimbledon Hingis may have hoped it would be. She only had to play two full matches to take the trophy.

Hingis’ received a first round bye in the $170,000 tournament, and her quarter-final opponent, Cara Black, pulled out due to illness. After beating Jennifer Capriati to reach the final, Dragomir retired after only three games into the second set because of an injured toe. Hingis was leading 3-0 after a convincing 6-2 win in the first set.

Dragomir said she left the court because she didn’t want to risk not being able to play in Wimbledon, which begins on Monday.
