Switzerland's world number one tennis player, Martina Hingis, brushed aside the challenge of France's Julie Halard-Decugis at the Chase championships in New York to qualify for the quarterfinals.

Hingis won her match 6-2, 6-3 in under an hour. “She didn’t make any mistakes…she was just too good today” said Halard-Decugis.

The Swiss player will now meet either Nathalie Tauziat or American Amy Frazier in the next round.

Hingis has won all but one of her 21 indoor matches this year.
