Jeker wins Tour of Portugal

The Swiss cyclist, Fabian Jeker, won the Tour of Portugal on Wednesday after winning the final 26.4km stage in 32 minutes 47 seconds.

Jeker, riding for the Maia-Milaneza team, almost caught up his nearest rival, Juan Miguel Mercado of Spain, who had started two minutes before him.

The course around Maia, near Portugal’s second city of Oporto, was the fourteenth stage of the two-week race.

Jeker’s overall winning time was 50 hours 58 seconds. Second place went to the Russian, Andrei Zintchenko, who finished 1 minute 40 seconds behind Jeker.
