Sauber score at Silverstone

Nick Heidfeld scored a valuable point for the Sauber team Keystone

The Swiss Formula One team, Sauber, have walked away from the British Grand Prix with another valuable championship point.

Sauber’s German driver, Nick Heidfeld, finished sixth in a tough race, just as the team’s other driver, Felipe Massa, had done two weeks ago at the European Grand Prix at the Nürburgring.

Heidfeld held off the assaults of Giancarlo Fischella of the Jordan team to earn his lone point. Massa was less successful this time round, finishing ninth after flirting with trouble on a number of occasions.

The Renault team failed to score any points on the fast Silverstone track, allowing Sauber to gain a little ground in the constructors’ championship. The Swiss outfit now have ten points against the French team’s 14.

Winner on the day was once again Ferrari’s Michael Schumacher, completing his seventh win of the season, ahead of teammate Rubens Barrichello. It was also the 60th time the current world champion finished first in a Grand Prix.

Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya finished third for Williams, ahead of Jacques Villeneuve and Olivier Panis, both in BAR cars. These were the first points for the BAR team this season.

Schumacher has all but wrapped up the drivers’ championship with 86 points after ten races, 54 ahead of Barrichello. Heidfeld is eighth on six points, and Massa 11th on four.
