St Gallen sign new players ahead of European deadline

The Swiss football champions, St Gallen, have added two new players to their squad shortly before the registration deadline for the European Champions League.

The former Swiss international defender, Marco Walker, and the Brazilian striker, Didi, will both be able to play in St Gallen’s Champions League qualifying tie against the Turkish club, Galatasaray. Walker, who last played for the national side in 1997, was released from his contract with Tennis Borussia Berlin after the German side were relegation to the third division.

Didi has been signed from the Portuguese club, Sao Paulo, after convincing the St Gallen manager, Marcel Koller, of his ability during trials. The 23-year-old forward’s full name is Sebastião Ferreira do Nascimento, although in keeping with Brazilian tradition he is known by his nickname.

The former Swiss international, Nestor Subiat, will not however be taking part in St Gallen’s European campaign. The 34-year-old striker, who currently plays in France with St Etienne, had also been for trials at the Espenmoos, but was not taken on by the club.
