Swede revenge for Swiss curlers

Switzerland's curlers celebrate their win Keystone

The Swiss men's curling team grabbed a deserved Olympic bronze on Friday, after finally getting the better of arch-rivals Sweden.

Andreas Schwaller’s side made a dream start to Friday’s match, stealing two stones in the second end to take an early 3-0 lead.

A smart double take out by the Swedes then reduced the Swiss lead to 3-2, but the team from Biel kept their cool, clinching a single in the fourth end, a double in the seventh and stealing a further single in the eighth to wrap up an impressive 7-3 victory with an end to spare.

The win completes a strong showing by Switzerland’s curlers at the Salt Lake Games. On Thursday the women’s team won the silver medal after narrowly losing their final match to Britain.

The men’s bronze medal win also brought some sweet revenge to Schwaller’s side who last year lost out to the Swedes in the final of both the world and European championships.
