Swiss golfer shines at Crans Masters

Julien Clément has finished third at the golf European Masters tournament in the Swiss mountain resort of Crans-sur-Sierre.

It is the best result for a Swiss golfer, who shared the spot with three other competitors on Sunday.

Jean-François Lucquin of France beat Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland in a playoff by making a birdie on the second hole to win the event.

The two had finished on 13-under-par totals of 271, one point ahead of Clément, Miguel Jimenez of Spain, Scotland’s Gary Orr and Christian Cévaër of France.

Ken Benz, the only other Swiss to make the cut, came 72nd.

The four-day tournament is part of the PGA European Tour and attracted about 47,000 spectators – a slight drop on the previous year.
