Switzerland ends Columbian peace talks
Switzerland has been the host of peace talks between Columbian government representatives and leaders of several guerrilla groups.
According to the Swiss Foreign Ministry the talks, which were held in Geneva from Thursday until Saturday, mainly focused on the legal and political situation of the troubled nation over the last 15 years.
The participants at the meeting, who included representatives of Swiss and Colombian universities, also discussed other issues, including federalism, regionalisation and the better use of existing laws.
The meeting was organised within the framework of Switzerland’s campaign to promote peace in Colombia. Switzerland belongs to a group of five countries, which monitor the peace process between the Colombian government and the radical Marxist group, the National Liberation Army (ELN).
Switzerland is a member of a group of ten countries, which promote the peace process with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), the military wing of the Columbian Communist Party.
