Zberg second in latest stage of Tour de France
Switzerland's Markus Zberg has clinched the second place in sixth stage of the Tour de France cycling race, after a furious sprint to the finish line. Leon van Bon of the Netherlands, Zberg's teammate, won the 198.5 kilometre stage.
France’s Emmanuel Magnien came third behind the Swiss man.
The result meant the overall standings took a completely different complexion, with defending champion Lance Armstrong and Frenchman Laurent Jalabert more than five minutes off the pace.
The Italian rider, Alberto Elli, gained the overall leadership and yellow jersey from Jalabert, one of the favourites to win the Tour.
The race from Vitre to the town of Tours covered mostly flat terrain with just one slow climb. After just 14 kilometres, 12 riders made a breakaway, which they maintained the rest of the way.
“This was my second Tour de France (stage) win and it was very beautiful,” the 28-year-old Van Bon said. “My team worked very well for me.”
