Zurich Lions falter in clash with Ambri

Defending Swiss ice hockey champions, Zurich Lions, have been trounced by Ambri Piotta. Their shock defeat comes after the Zurich team clobbered arch rivals Lugano on Friday.

The Lions were hoping to repeat their stunning performance against Lugano, but their bad luck throughout the week came back to haunt them on Saturday, when they were defeated 3-1 by Ambri.

Lions coach, Larry Huras, had harsh words for his team, saying: “We have too many players without heart. Professionals give their all, but that was not the case today”.

The only high point in a dismal match was Petri Varis’ first NLA hit, which gave the Lions a short-lived lead of 1-0.

By contrast, the Ticino team hardly put a foot wrong. Their defence was almost impeccable, and they easily sent the puck passed the Lions, who only 19 hours before had achieved a stunning victory against Lugano 5-2.
