Lottery wins make 35 millionaires

In 2010, 35 people became millionaires in Switzerland after winning either on Swiss Lotto or on Euro Millions from Swisslos and the Loterie Romande.

In all, 31 people won a seven-figure sum on Swiss Lotto, with four winning millions of francs on Euro Millions, Swisslos said on Wednesday.

The last payouts of the year went to somebody from French-speaking Switzerland  – SFr2.5 million ($2.6 million) on December 24 – and a winner from the German-speaking part on New Year’s Eve (SFr8.1 million).

Euro Millions saw a lucky player winning SFr83.9 million, the second highest payment ever. The highest was SFr99 million in 2005.

The cross-cantonal Swisslos lottery is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. The revenue passes via cantonal lottery and sports funds to cultural, sports and social organisations.
