Lugano made it six points from two games with a 2-0 away win at Aarau on Wednesday. The win puts the Ticinese side two points clear of their nearest rivals Servette Geneva, who drew 2-2 with Zurich on Tuesday.

Lugano, who had to fight to avoid relegation last season, are the only team on maximum points after two games. They went 1-0 up just before half time through a goal from Christian Giminez.

Julio Hernan Rossi made it 2-0 after the break when he found the back of the net in the 51st minute.

In Wednesday’s other matches, champions St Gallen gained their first points of the season with a 2-1 win at home to Lucerne. Last year’s runners up, Basel, went down 2-0 away to Neuchatel. Beaten cup finalists, Lausanne, put four past Yverdon in their 4-2 win, and newly-promoted Sion beat Grasshoppers 1-0.
