Mixed results for Swiss at Casablanca Open
Switzerland's Emmanuelle Gagliardi has defeated Latvia's Liga Dekmeljere in straight sets at the Casablanca WTA tennis tournament. Gagliardi's compatriot, Miroslava Vavrinec, succumbed to her French opponent, Emilie Loit.
Gagliardi beat her Latvian opponent 6-4, 6-1 in the first round of the tournament on Tuesday. The Geneva player goes on to face Argentinia’s Maria Emilia Salerni.
Salerni defeated the Czech player, Alena Vaskova, in three sets 5-7, 6-1, 6-4.
Thurgau’s Vavrinec was less fortunate than her Swiss compatriot. In her encounter with Loit, she lost her fourth consecutive match 5-7, 2-6.
