Müller cruising for World Rowing Championship success
Olympic silver medallist, Switzerland's Xeno Müller, has set himself on track to take his first world single sculls title after winning Thursday's semi-final race at the World Rowing Championships in Lucerne.
The California-based Müller finished the Rotsee course in a time of six minutes, 42.88 seconds. He was neck-and-neck with his main rival, Olympic doubles gold medallist Iztok Cop of Slovenia, for the full 2,000 metres.
Australia’s Duncan Free came third, also booking his place in Saturday’s A-final.
Swiss competitors in the men’s double sculls, André Vonarburg and Christian Stofer, were less successful than Müller. They failed to finish in the top three of the semi-final race and so will advance to the B-final.
The Swiss duo finished sixth, three seconds behind France’s Adrien Hardy and Sébastien Vieilledent.
Switzerland has another two boats through to the A-finals. Pia Vogel in the women’s single skulls and Caroline Lüthi and Bernadette Wicki in the women’s double skulls will race this weekend.
