Hingis, who squandered four match points on her way to losing to Jennifer Capriati in the final, remains in fourth place in the WTA rankings.

She will be looking to put Saturday's heartbreaking loss behind her when she lines up as the top seed in the SFr2 million ($1.2 million) Toray Pan Pacific Open.

Federer, who went out in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, drops one place from 11th to 12th in the ATP rankings.

He now moves on to the Milan Indoors tournament where he captured his first ATP title last year, defeating the unseeded Frenchman, Julien Boutter, in the final.

The 20-year-old is seeded second for this year's tournament, which carries prize money of SFr650,000. He faces Austria's Stefan Koubek in the first round.
