Novartis plans to develop new research facility

Novartis wants to expand its research team Keystone Archive

The life sciences giant, Novartis, is planning to further develop its research facilities at its headquarters in Basel, creating around 300 new jobs.

A Novartis spokesman said the project was already in an advanced stage and that a firm decision would be taken within the next few months.

The plan is to build a new research centre called the “Drug Discovery Centre” where researchers will conduct studies into new medicines. Their work will be based on genetic research.

The annual budget for the new centre would be around SFr100 million ($58.8 million).

Novartis currently employs 1,200 research staff in Basel and a further 1,500 around the world. Last year, the company’s research budget amounted to about SFr4 million.
