Romero leaves the field in his wake

Eduardo Romero left his opponents grasping for second place Keystone

Veteran Argentine golfer, Eduardo Romero, is still leading the pack after the third round of the European Masters tournament in Crans Montana. He shot a nine under par 62 on Saturday, leaving the rest of the field in his wake.

Romero was out to show his second round lead was no fluke. Leaving nothing to chance, he went out and beat the course record with a 62.

On the day, the only player to come close to Romero was Scot Dean Robertson, who shot a 63 round the course earlier on.

Romero managed to score two eagles and five birdies. ” The shots were unbelievable,” said Romero, “some of the best in my life.”

The world’s number one player, Tiger Woods, is the only person to have carded a better score this season on the European Tour, with a 61 at the recent world golf championship event.

Romero is now eight strokes ahead of second placed Northern Irishman Darren Clarke, who managed a four under par 67 on Saturday.

But even with this cushion, Romero refuses to shout victory before the final round. “Eight strokes is a big advantage, but I have to keep my concentration because the tournament is not yet finished.”

Meanwhile, things are still looking good for Swiss golfer Paolo Quirici. He held second place for a while by covering the first nine holes in 29, but faded on the back nine by shooting 37.

Despite this, Quirici shot a five under par 66, and the Swiss has a total score of 204 for the three rounds played so far. It also leaves him sharing third place on the leader board with Welshman Phillip Price.
