Ryf wins triathlon event in Seoul

Daniela Ryf of Switzerland has won the women’s South Korean triathlon, the second race of the world championship. Another Swiss, Nicola Spirig, came fourth.

Ryf won the race in 2:00:59, beating the world number one Barbara Riveros Diaz of Chile and reigning world champion Emma Moffatt of Australia.

“I was really suffering toward the end,” Ryf said. “I’m so surprised I was able to pull it out. I just tried to focus on my technique to keep it together at the end.”

Riveros Diaz, who won the opening race in Sydney last month, was 1:03 behind.

“My goal is to be consistent this year, so I’m very happy with my result today,” Riveros Diaz said. “I just have to keep working hard and remember that it’s a year-long process.”

Moffatt, the Beijing bronze medalist, was two seconds behind the Chilean.
