Schnyder claims tennis title in Bali

Switzerland's Patty Schnyder has clinched the Bali Classic – her first tournament victory in over three years.

The world number 13 defeated Austria’s Tamira Paszek 6-3, 6-0 on Sunday to earn the 11th singles title of her professional career.

Schnyder took just over an hour to overcome her 17-year-old opponent after a difficult start.

“I wanted to win this tournament and I did,” the Swiss player said.

Schnyder’s last tournament victory came at Cincinnati in July 2005, after which she lost seven finals.

She went out in the quarterfinal of the US Open and suffered a second round defeat at the Beijing Olympics.
