Snowfall puts paid to Eiger climb
Fresh snowfall has forced the Alps Walk team to abandon plans to climb the west flank of the Eiger. Instead, they are tackling a "rockspur" at the bottom of the fearsome north face. The rockspur, called "Rotstock", gives climbers an idea what it is like to climb the north face, without the risks.
Although the rockspur is equipped with ropes and ladders, there is still an element of risk, given the danger of rockfalls. The near vertical face towers in the sky, giving climbers a similar feeling to that facing more intrepid mountaineers, who actually tackle the Eiger’s north face.
