Swiss celebrate mountain bike victories

Switzerland's mountain bikers have pulled off a double victory at the latest World Cup event on Canada's Grouse Mountain. The fourth cross country race of the season ended with Christoph Sauser winning the men's category and Barbara Blatter the women's.

The win was Sauser’s second World Cup victory, following his success in Los Angeles two years ago, but the Olympic bronze medallist needed a bit of luck in Canada. Apparently heading for second place, Sauser was able to take the lead when Canadian world number one, Roland Green, suffered a flat tyre.

Blatter’s win was less surprising, coming after two second place finishes this season. A silver medallist at the Sydney Olympics, Blatter finished more than two minutes ahead of local favourite Chrissy Reeden to further stretch her lead in the World Cup overall standings.

Sauser has leapt from 13th to fifth in the men’s standings.
