Swiss firms urged to find new partners

Industry is becoming more dependent on partnerships Keystone Archive

The global trend towards creating business alliances is increasing, according to a new survey from the consultancy, Arthur D. Little.

The survey says Swiss firms must forge new partnerships if they don’t want to lag being their international competitors.

Some 1200 managers from all sectors worldwide took part in the survey, and 69 per cent said they planned to strengthen their business alliances.

More than half said business partnerships were highly significant for their company, and 90 per cent said alliances would be important within five years.

At present, 42 per cent of those questioned said more than 10 per cent of their company’s annual sales revenues came from business partnerships.

Such alliances are especially important, says the survey, in industries like information technology, telecommunications and the media.

The building of business alliances is also becoming more popular than the classic merger scenario. Many managers say the partnerships leave them with more flexibility.
