The Federal Statistics Office has published its annual first-name hit parade, with four-letter names topping the charts in both German- and French-speaking Switzerland.

Lena was the most popular name given to girls born last year in German-speaking regions, ahead of Mia and Lara. Noah edged out Luca – last year’s winner for boys – with Leon in third position.
Lena was back on top for the third time since 2006.
In French-speaking Switzerland, Emma continued her dominance among girls – she’s been in pole position since 2004. Léa and Lara were the second and third most popular names.
For boys, Nathan was the most chosen followed by Gabriel and Luca.
Parents in Italian-speaking areas were more traditional: Mattia, Alessandro and Andrea were the most popular boys’ names with Giulia, Sofia and Noemi leading the girls’ hit parade.
