Swiss president calls on companies to fight discrimination

The Swiss president, Adolf Ogi, marked World Handicap Day on Sunday and called on companies in Switzerland to fight discrimination against disabled people.

Ogi urged for the barriers, which exclude handicapped people from employment, to be removed.

“Too many disabled people are excluded from the work world because of their handicaps,” Ogi said. In a society where self-identity is closely linked with employment, the situation for disabled people can be made all the more painful.

Professional integration is the theme of this year’s World Handicap Day.
