The Swiss Red Cross is sending emergency supplies to earthquake victims in Turkey in response to an appeal launched by the Turkish Red Crescent on Tuesday.

The Swiss aid organisation is providing four large multipurpose tents and 300 smaller tents, 3,000 blankets as well as cooking utensils. Staff are also travelling to Turkey with the goods.
The Swiss Red Cross is spending SFr400,000 ($452,000) on the relief effort, most of which will come from Swiss government humanitarian aid. It has also launched a public appeal for donations.
The Turkish Red Crescent has already set up several camps with around 17,000 tents.
Sunday’s 7.2-magnitude quake in eastern Turkey killed at least 461 people and injured over 1,350. Thousands have been left homeless in near-freezing temperatures and there have been reports of victims fighting over aid.
