Swiss success in tennis and cross-country skiing

Switzerland’s David Cologna has sealed his second victory in the prestigious Tour de ski cross-country competition.

Cologna held off a challenge by his main rival, Petter Northug, in the final stage of the tour, a nine-kilometre hill climb in Val di Fiemme, Italy, on Sunday.

The Swiss athlete, who won the eight-day event in 2009, beat Northug by 28 seconds in the overall standings.

Cologna’s fellow countryman, Curdin Perl, finished fourth behind Lukas Bauer of the Czech Republic.

In tennis, Stanislas Wawrinka has won the Chennai Open in India – the third ATP tournament victory of his career.

The Swiss number two beat Belgium’s Xavier Malisse 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 on Sunday. The victory paves the way for the return into the top 20 of the ATP ranking.

Last year Wawrinka lost in the Chennai final to Marin Cilic.
