Swiss women secure place in European curling semis

Switzerland's women's curling squad celebrate their success Keystone

Switzerland's women are sure of a place in the European Curling Championship semi-final, after a 7-4 victory over Norway. The Swiss squad came back from 4-1 down against a Norwegian side they could meet again in Friday's semi-final.

Meanwhile, the men’s team pulled off their best performance so far in the competition, with a 7-2 defeat of Sweden. With five wins out of seven games, they are also within reach of a semi-final place.

Eighteen countries are playing it out at the European Championship, which is the last chance for a place in the World Championship. Only the seven best teams will make it into that competition, which is being held in Lausanne in April.

The World Championship is itself the last hurdle for qualification for the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.
