It was the most successful day so far for Switzerland since the start of the Paralympics last Thursday.

It was a particularly good day for the cyclist, Beat Schwarzenbach. He was able to add a gold in the 4,000 metres Mixed Individual Pursuit to the bronze medal he won in the 1,000 metres on Sunday.

Another Swiss, Lukas Christen, won gold in his long-jump event and set a world record with a time of 5.57 metres. It was the fourth gold medal for the athlete, who won the triple in the 1996 Atlanta games.

The third gold of the day went to Heinz Frei for the 800 metres wheelchair track race.

Switzerland's first gold came on Sunday, when Urs Kolly won the long jump (amputee division) competition.

Monday's successes bring Switzerland's total number of medals to nine. Apart from the four golds, Switzerland has one silver and four bronze medals.
