Switzerland has finished second in hockey's Tatra Cup in Slovakia after a 3-4 defeat to the host nation in Trencin on Saturday. Slovakia won the competition with Belarus third and Norway fourth.

Switzerland’s Patrick Fischer opened the scoring just six minutes into the first period. Teammate Martin Plüss, kept up the pressure by shooting into the net just six minutes after Slovakia had levelled in the second.

The third period proved decisive however, when the Slovakians scored three times against a single goal from Switzerland’s Flavien Conne.

Defender, Olivier Keller, said: “This tournament proves once again that we can hold our own against the best teams. The Slovakians wanted their revenge in front of a home crowd for the defeat we inflicted on them in Hanover and they were very focused.”

In Saturday’s other match, Belarus beat Norway 4-1. On Friday, the Swiss tied 1-1 with Belarus and on Thursday, they beat Norway 3-0.
