The Lions keep on roaring
The second round of the ice hockey league play-offs on Saturday saw the Zurich Lions take one step closer to their third Swiss title in a row.
But the Lions had to rely on a penalty shoot-out to secure victory over opponents Ambri to take a 2-0 lead in their best-of-seven quarter-final series.
Elsewhere in the play-offs, Lugano seemed determined to ensure they do not become league runners-up to the Lions for the third time in a row by defeating rivals Zug 4-1.
Fribourg, meanwhile, travelled to Kloten to seek revenge for their first-round defeat on Thursday night, and the fans who accompanied them did not return home disappointed.
During a closely fought contest in front of just over 7000 spectators, there was little to separate the two sides, and the match was only decided in the 52nd minute after a winning goal by Fribourg’s Rottaris gave the visitors a 4-3 advantage to level their series 1-1.
In Saturday’s other match, Bern defeated Davos 5-4 to draw level with their opponents 1-1 in the play-offs after two rounds.
On Sunday, the four pairings will come together again to contest round three. The first teams to win four matches progress to the play-off semi-finals.
