Unemployment rises for first time since January

The jobless rate has increased in Switzerland for the first time since January, with the November figure rising to 3.6 per cent compared with 3.5 per cent in October.

At the end of November, 141,668 people were registered in cantonal placement offices, which is 2,303 more than the previous month.

“The minor upstick is nothing to worry about since it is down to seasonal factors,” said analyst Nikola Stephan, from Informa Global Markets.

While unemployment increased slightly for the 25-49 age group, it decreased by the same amount for those aged between 15 and 24.

The unemployment rate for people over 50 remained stable.
