The Congress of the Swiss Abroad takes place in Lugano from August 19-21. It’s the first physical meeting since Covid hit, and there are many new faces among the 140 delegates this year.
What expectations do you have of the delegates representing the “Fifth Switzerland”? What do you hope the 98th Congress of the Swiss Abroad can achieve?

With AVS it is easy, you don't pay general tax here because you don't work here but you want to pay the 3rd pillar I guess, however the reason there are 3 pillars is that 1st is compulsory and other voluntary. If you don't participate in compulsory part I don't see any reason for you to be able to participate in voluntary helpful once.
I wish that just as the Americans have their international American schools, we could also have Swiss schools in our countries with language and cultural education, so that culture and education would be kept alive, we would not have so many language and cultural problems when changing countries.

I am hoping the Congress will discuss the prospect of mingling with non-Swiss lovers of Switzerland. I lived for a decade in Switzerland and absolutely adore it. I would very much like to get together with Swiss citizens living in the Washington DC area.

Indeed, my grandmother in Switzerland where I lived with her had opened me an account at the Cantonal Bank of St Gallen that I transferred in the canton of Vaud but that I had to close following the new laws. I don't think it's okay that the BR doesn't finally intervene and allow the Swiss abroad to have an account. Example, the Raiffeisenbank wants to cancel the account of all Swiss abroad.

Here is the answer from customer service: "We can only buy broadcast material for the Swiss market - worldwide rights are many times more expensive and thus unfortunately not financially viable for SRG. We are therefore obliged to ensure that our signal is encrypted abroad via satellite."

Unfortunately we can not come to Lugano but something I would like to share as a Swiss for over 55 years in Texas. So in the early evening we like to watch how things are going in Switzerland and feel a bit at home again. But since SRF has to save a lot of money, it doesn't work well anymore. A lot of things can not be made to run unless you look for it on name list and then you have to activate it. No that does not always work. So 2 hours of Switzerland play rarely goes even with or one big effort.

Auslandschweizerkongress
Leider können wir nicht nach Lugano kommen aber etwas möchte ich doch gerne mitteilen als Schweizer seit über 55 Jahren in Texas. So am frühen Abend schauen wir gerne wie es in der Schweiz geht und fühlen uns wieder etwas zu Hause. Aber seit gross gespart werden muss bei SRF funktioniert das nicht mehr gut. Vieles kann nicht zum laufen gebracht werden es sei denn man sucht es auf Namen Liste und dann muss man es auch aktivieren. Nein das geht auch nicht immer. So 2 Stunden Schweiz Spielen geht selten auch mit oder one grossen Aufwand.

I got an answer from customer service: "On the one hand, it is of course possible that you are using outdated hardware or software and therefore the videos cannot be played. However, if you are trying to play third-party broadcasts, sports broadcasts or other livestreams, it is due to geoblocking:
We can only buy broadcast material for the Swiss market - worldwide rights are many times more expensive and thus unfortunately not financially viable for SRG. We are therefore obliged to ensure that our TV live streams as well as most purchased/externally produced broadcasts cannot be received outside of Switzerland.
However, you should be able to watch our own productions ("Tagesschau", "10vor10", "Arena", "Puls", "Rundschau" etc.) via Play SRF without any problems. Unfortunately not live, but a little later (about an hour after the broadcast on TV) as video-on-demand in the media library. For technical reasons, we cannot specifically block or unblock the TV live streams (depending on the program that is currently running).
A user account for Swiss citizens abroad would of course be the obvious solution, but such a login is not yet feasible for technical and cost reasons. There are already considerations in this direction - but I cannot tell you at this point in time how this solution will be designed."

Swiss abroad from all cantons should be allowed to vote for their councillors of the Council of States. The current patchwork is not objectively justified.
SRF TV should be free of charge for all registered Swiss abroad. This will keep us connected to what is happening in our home country. Until then, we will watch ARD and ZDF - free of charge, of course.

Switzerland does not want E-voting because of elementary security concerns: it was already rejected in a federal popular vote: if you have no respect for the federal vote, it means you have no respect for Switzerland either. This 'obstinacy is beginning to bother.
