Young Boys Bern have moved joint top of the Swiss football league after beating Neuchâtel Xamax 2-0 on Friday.

The result puts the newly-promoted Young Boys second in the Swiss league table, with the same number of points as the leading team, FC Zurich.

It was clear throughout the match that the Neuchâtel team never had a chance of winning against their opponents.

The first goal for Young Boys came after 19 minutes of play with a penalty kick by the midfield player, Gürkan Sermeter, following a foul by Neuchâtel’s Schlussmann.

The 9,000 spectators then had to wait until the 93rd minute of play before the second goal which was scored by the Armenian player, Artur Petrosjan.

The match was far from pretty with a total of nine warnings issued, and one red card for Neuchâtel’s Timothée Atouba.
