Zülle to leave Banesto?

The Swiss cyclist, Alex Zülle, is reportedly on the verge of signing with the Italian team, Saeco, which already employs his compatriots, Laurent Dufaux and Armin Meier.

The French sports daily, “L’équipe”, said Zülle’s current team, Banesto of Spain, was unhappy with his performance during the Tour de France, and had decided to abandon him.

Zülle withdrew from the Tour in the final week. After finishing in second place in 1999, he was struggling to keep up during this year’s event, and was in 47th place when he pulled out.

According to the newspaper report, Zülle would lead the Saeco team in the Tour de France and in the Vuelta (Tour of Spain), while Paolo Savoldelli would take on the responsibility in the Giro d’Italia.
